 WHAT IS THE METAVERSE AND HOW WILL IT CHANGE THE WAY WE UNDERSTAND CORPORATE EVENTS ?

 

 

The metaverse has been one of the buzzwords in recent months in the world of entertainment and also in the business world. A new way of understanding the way we relate to each other seems to have captured the interest of large companies such as Microsoft and Facebook, which are already preparing their respective platforms in what seems to be a new evolutionary leap in the ever-changing world of communications.

In this article we want to shed some light on this "parallel universe" and we would like to share with you some thoughts on how the metaverse could change the way we currently understand social relations in the workplace.

What is the metaverse?

The metaverse is a virtual world, an immersive experience in which users interact in a parallel universe. Like any new conception of an idea, it still seems too general a concept. It is difficult to put a face to it and to really understand to what extent its implementation can change the world of social and business relations as we know it.

Therefore, we are going to give a short introduction to some aspects that we believe will be relevant in the future, related to the field of business meetings and large-scale business events.

The implications of the metaverse for business and corporate event organisation

There is no doubt that the leap into the virtual world, if it happens, will be a challenge for most companies. We are used to the business world demanding ever more innovative technology, but which areas of the company are likely to be most affected?

Virtual business meetings

Increasingly better internet connections and the acceleration of teleworking in the wake of the global health crisis resulting from Covid-19 has made us more familiar with digital meetings. In doing so, we have learnt of the facilities this confers but also the difficulties.

It is safe to say that long screen-based meetings sometimes make it difficult to pay sustained attention. The proposal of sensory immersion through 3D glasses and cases makes the user feel that they are really face to face with their interlocutor, despite being thousands of kilometres away. This implies a greater focus of attention and concentration.

In addition, we can add to this the fact that the setting is the imagination of the speaker: how about meeting at the top of the world's tallest business building?

Virtual product presentations

What if we could do a product showroom without even having a prototype of the product? What if the user could interact, feel the dimensions and texture of a product that is just an idea and has not even been created.

The metaverse, through sensory immersion, could put a product in our own hands so that we could interact with it, getting to know how it works in depth, its size, in the case of a smartphone, for example, or even put us at the controls of a vehicle that has not even been manufactured yet.

In the same way, a construction manager could show every aspect of the state of construction of a project to shareholders, or an investor could understand how a new aircraft engine works through the eyes of a particle of air.

The metaverse in corporate events: No limit to the imagination

Imagine a networking event that never starts and never ends, it is just a virtual space that you can access at any time and contribute your knowledge, or simply attend as a listener. What about a competition in the metaverse between companies where the winner is the one that demonstrates the best organisation in a virtual kitchen?  The metaverse offers infinite possibilities for creating spaces, elements, routines, scenarios?

The future of Mice events with the metaverse

The existence of the metaverse, however, will continue to fail to meet a human need for real social relations. It is therefore important to understand that physical meetings will not be replaced in any way, but will be combined with extrasensory experiences. And these will be the differential value.

An entire auditorium will be able to drive the prototype of a new yacht at the same time, while each attendee discusses their impressions with the colleague next to them; a small group of investors will enjoy a wine tasting while virtually strolling through the vineyard where it all began; and at the next shareholders' meeting held in a hotel in a coastal city, each attendee will be able to navigate through the sales statistics at the touch of a finger.

MICE events can undergo a real transformation with the incorporation of the metaverse into the business world, and yet its combination with the human touch, which every worker holds dear, will be key to the success of an event.
